Defying the buzz around the launch of the iPhone 7 at its gala event scheduled in September, the company may just have another plan up its sleeve.

Disappointed? Don’t be as the replacement at the most-anticipated event in the smartphone industry could be the iPhone 6SE. According to rumours, the Cupertino giant may not Christine its flagship release as the iPhone 7 but instead stick to the older series.

According to German publication Apfelpage.de, an unnamed source in China revealed that Apple has already produced packages with iPhone 6SE branding, making the name near-official.

Though there is no confirmation as of now, it is expected that the name change is due to the minimal design alterations in this year’s iPhone. Apple gives complete design change to its iPhones every two years, while the 'S' variants come with just internal changes.

However, according to analysts, Apple is keeping the new and improved design changes for next year's iPhone. As 2017 will be marked as the tech giant’s best-selling device’s 10th anniversary. Rumoured to be called as iPhone 8, it is expected to feature wireless charging, glass body around metal frame, bezel-free edge-to-edge display and AMOLED 4K screen.

Recently it was rumoured that Apple will be launching the next iPhone on September 16. The iPhones are likely to be released along with the new iPad, Apple Watch and iOS10.
