Google has announced the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat. Users of Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and Android One will soon get an over-the-air software update to take their devices to Android 7.0 Nougat.
In addition, users who enrolled their device in the Android Beta Program will soon be receiving the final version of Google's latest mobile operating system.
Other smartphones coming out this fall will be sold with Nougat already installed.
The new version of Android has been in a testing phase since March as Google polished the system that will feature 72 new emojis and the ability to reply to notifications without opening an app.
Rival Apple is scheduled to release the latest operating system for the iPhone next month.
Here is what users can expect from Android 7.0 Nougat:
Multi-window and resizable apps
This feature will allow users to run two apps side by side. Also the users will be able to resize the windows. To activate this feature, a user will have to press and hold on the first app they want to run. Once it is displayed, the user can drag it to one side of the screen. Then the user can open another app on the secondary window. The feature may not work with all Android apps, but it will work in both landscape and portrait orientations.
Virtual reality
VR mode will be introduced in Android with Nougat through Daydream. The current handsets does not support this feature and it will be only compatible with new devices which will roll out later this year.
Longer battery life
This latest version of Android will enhance the battery life of the smartphones as it will be equipped with the updated version of Doze that preserves the battery while the phone is lying at rest and idle.
Data Saver
Users will be able to use the Data Saver feature to restrict apps from using cellular data in the background. By enabling this feature, users can choose which apps will not be able to send or receive data in the background.
Quick Settings
This will help users to easily access Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the flashlight with a single swipe. All the important shortcuts will be visible in the notification shade. Also a user can edit and change the order of the icons.
