New Delhi: With India emerging as among the top 10 markets for Mac computers, CEO Tim Cook is looking to further expand its footprint in India. Not just iPhones, the CEO is now planning to take its Mac computers to several smaller towns through neighbourhood electronics stores.
Media reports suggest that the tech giant is investing more on its personal computer business and is all set to double its distribution reach from 75 cities at present over the next 2-3 years through small computer, electronics and cellphone stores.
India is one of the few markets where Apple has 8-9 percent share in just the consumer PC segment. With the company’s Mac business revenue growing at over 100 per cent in the last few years, it is expected that this will be a promising category in the country after iPhones.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently visited India and asked his Indian team to tap the more than five million iPhone users in the country to cross sell Mac computers. Till now Macs are only sold through franchisee-run exclusive Apple stores, online marketplaces and retail chains like Croma and Reliance Digital.
IDC, a market tracker said that Apple is the leader in the Rs. 60,000 plus computer segment in India. Mac computers are leading with 32.7 percent shares during the January-March quarter. The Cupertino giant is ahead of Hewlett-Packard with 29.1 percent share and Dell with 17.1 percent market share.
