Patna: Boat carrying 17 people capsizes in Ganga, search underway for six missing
At least six people went missing while the rest swam to the shore after a boat carrying a dozen capsized in river Ganga in Bihar's Patna.
In tragic incident, a boat carrying seventeen people capsized in the Ganga River near Barh town, located 70 km away from Patna. According to the officials, while eleven of the passengers swam to the shore, the rest six reportedly went missing.
The officials said the boat was travelling from Barh's Umanath Ghat to Diara when the incident happened, and presently, the search is underway for the remaining six passengers onboard the boat.
Significantly, Sunday's (June 16) incident comes after two people went missing after their boat capsized in the Ganga River only near Mahavir Tola village in Bihar earlier last month.
According to the officials, the incident occurred on May 19 around 7-8 a.m. when a few farmers were taking their vegetables in a boat, and as they were about to reach the Mahavir Tola ghat, the boat capsized. "Except for 2 people, the rest of them swam and came to the shore. A search operation is underway, and the and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team has reached the site. As per eyewitnesses, there were 10–12 people in the boat," officials said.
