Former MLA Anant Singh was disqualified from the Legislative Assembly after he was convicted for 10 years imprisonment. Later, his wife Neelam devi won the assembly polls on RJD ticket.

Amidst considerable speculation and public attention, political figure Anant Singh has reemerged into the spotlight following his release from jail. Singh, who spent a brief period behind bars, has wasted no time in engaging with the public, sparking curiosity and intrigue.

In an exclusive interview with India TV, Anant Singh shared insights into his recent activities, revealing his immediate focus on reconnecting with the people. He emphasized his ongoing interactions with the public, highlighting their overwhelming support and endorsement of his leadership.

On being asked about being called ‘chhote sarkaar’, Anant Singh said, 'People call me ‘chhote sarkaar’ because of my association with the poor people.' Anant Singh was also asked about the response he is getting from the people after coming out of prison. On this, Anant Singh said, 'The public is saying that it is good that you have come, and now you do not need to go.' 

I am not Bahubali, it is media perception

Responding to the question regarding his aura and influence over the people and how he manages to win wherever he goes, Anant Singh said that there is no such thing like aura. He said, “The public believes in us, that is why we win the elections. We have won even from jail.” He also said that 'Journalists call us criminals, we are not Bahubali, you people have given all these names.' 

Additionally, he was asked whether Lalu or Nitish Kumar said anything to him. On this Anant Singh replied that they will speak if he does something. Emphasising that he never did anything wrong, he said why would they need to speak to him. Anant Singh revealed that he has not talked to any leader since coming out of jail. He further added that he has only gone among the people and met the public.

Who is Anant Singh?

Anant Kumar Singh, also known as Chhote Sarkar, has been a five-time MLA from Nihar’s Mokama. He was released from the Beur Central Jail in Patna on 15-day parole on Sunday. Singh is a convicted ex-legislator and faces 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in two separate Arms Act cases. 

In 2020, he was elected as MLA from Mokama but he was disqualified as an MLA after his conviction in the arms case. One AK-47 rifle covered in carbon to avoid detection, two hand grenades and live cartridges were allegedly seized from Singh’s ancestral house.
