Patna: An undertrial prisoner brought by the police to appear before Danapur court in the Patna district of Bihar was shot dead by assailants on Friday. The Bihar Police has arrested the two assailants who shot at the undertrial prisoner.
Beur Central Jail inmate shot dead
Patna City SP Rajesh Kumar Abhishek Singh aka Chote Sarkar, who was an inmate of Beur Central Jail in Patna, was brought to court where he was shot by two people. "Abhishek Singh aka Chote Sarkar was attacked by two people who shot at him in Danapur court. Further investigation is underway. Abhishek Kumar passed away in the attack. Two accused taken into custody," said Kumar.
According to the police, the incident took place around 1.30 pm, and Singh was rushed to the nearest government hospital, where he was declared brought-dead.
Was murder accused
In a post on X, the Patna district police said, “Abhishek Singh alias Chote Sarkar was attacked by two armed assailants in Danapur court premises on Friday when he was being escorted to a trial court from the lock-up. Both the assailants, who tried to escape, were caught by the police”. He has a number of criminal cases registered against him, including ones for murder and extortion, police said.
“The accused are being interrogated by the investigators to ascertain their motive. A case has also been registered against them and further investigation is on,” the officer said.
As per the reports, multiple cases were filed against Abhishek Kumar. However, the motive behind the murder has not been clarified. The accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.
