Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In a fresh twist in Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh's electoral ambition, his mother Pratima Devi filed nomination from the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday. The actor-turned-politician also filed his nomination from the same constituency as an Independent candidate despite objection by his party - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Today was the last day to file a nomination for the Karakat seat. She filed her nomination as an Independent candidate. Five days after Pawan Singh's nomination, his mother along with her daughter-in-law reached the election office to jump in the fray.
Pawan Singh may withdraw his nomination
Meanwhile, there is a strong buzz that Pawan Singh may withdraw his nomination. His mother's nomination strengthened the speculation about his stepping back.
BJP had given ticket from Asansol
Pawan Singh, who had taken membership of BJP last year, wanted to contest elections from Arrah Lok Sabha seat but the party fielded him from the Asansol constituency in West Bengal. Subsequently, he refused to contest from Asansol and later filed nomination from Karakat Lok Sabha seat.
Pawan Singh owns assets worth Rs 16.75 crore
Pawan Singh owns movable and immovable assets worth Rs 16.75 crore, according to an affidavit filed by him to the Election Commission.
Singh, who had earlier refused a BJP ticket from West Bengal, on Thursday filed his nomination papers from Karakat in his home state Bihar, amid the party maintaining a deafening silence over his entry into the fray against an NDA candidate.
Former union minister Upendra Kushwaha, who heads Rashtriya Lok Morcha, is in the fray as the NDA candidate in Karakat.
NDA's candidate Kushwaha will soon file his nomination papers from the seat, while the CPI(ML) Liberation's Rajaram Singh has already submitted his papers as 'Mahagathbandhan' nominee.
Karakat will go to polls in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1.
