Women should not make these mistakes during Vat Savitri fast
- Married women who perform Vat Savitri fast should not wear black, blue and white clothes.

How married women should get ready?
On this day, after waking up in the morning and taking a shower one should be fully dressed. Women should do 'Sulah Shringar' on this day, wear beautiful and attractive clothes, put bangles, mangtika, waistbands, bindi etc. Apply henna on hands and feet. After this worship the banyan tree.
How to worship?
On this day, Banyan tree is worshipped. Offer water to the root of the tree, apply kumkum, light a lamp and incense sticks. While circumambulating the banyan tree for at least 7 or not more than 108 times, wrap raw yarn and pray for your husband. After worship, seek blessings by touching the feet of your mother-in-law and elder sister-in-law or whoever is elder to you.

Savitri gets married to Satyavan. Savitri starts living a happy life with her husband. But after some years Narad Rishi comes and tells her that your husband will die in a few days. Savitri gets nervous and prays to Narada Muni for the long life of her husband. Narad Muni says it is not possible, but he said when your husband's health starts deteriorating then you go under the banyan tree. After a few days her husband's health deteriorated and Savitri took her husband near the banyan tree where he dies. After some time Yamraj came and started going towards the south, taking the life of her husband. Savitri was watching all this. Savitri thought to herself that the life of an Indian woman is not proper without a husband. That is why Savitri started following Yamraj. Yamraj forbade Savitri from coming back and said, do not follow me.
Savitri told Yamraj that wherever my husband goes, I will go with him. Even after persuading her, Savitri did not listen and kept on chasing Yamraj. In the end, Yamraj started tempting Savitri and said daughter Savitri, you take any boon from me and leave me behind. Savitri asked for a boon to become a mother, Yamraj granted the boon. When Yamraj started walking after giving the boon, Savitri said, Lord, I will become a mother, how are you taking my husband? Hearing this, Yamraj became happy and said that there will be no trouble in the life of a husband who will have a wife like you Sati Savitri. He said that the one who observes this Vat Savitri fast on this day can have long life of her husband. Saying this, Yamraj went back to his world after bringing alive Savitri's husband Satyavan. Since then it is a belief that the woman who fasts and worships for her husband on this day has a long life for her husband.
