Vat Savitri Vrat 2022: The puja of Vat Savitri is performed by the married couple for the integrity of their marriage and the longevity of the husband. Know things that are necessary for Vat Savitri fast
To worship Vat Savitri, it is very important to know its method. You need following things for the puja
- Raw cotton
- Banyan fruit
- Diya
- Incense
- Roli-Akshat
- Fruits and flowers
- Sweets
- Soaked gram
- Kalash filled with water
- Honey
- One and a half meter cloth
- Savitri and Satyavan idol to be decorated on your plate
Worship method of Vat Savitri Vrat
- On this day, women wake up in the morning and take a bath
- After this, wear new clothes and get ready
- Keep all the ingredients of worship on the plate
- Under the Vat (Banyan) tree, keep all the material of worship
- Install the idols of Satyavan and Savitri
- Then worship with materials like incense, lamp, roli, soaked gram, vermilion etc.
- Offer red cloth and fruits
- Wind Savitri-Satyavan with a bamboo fan and put a banyan leaf to your hair
- Wrap the red thread around the tree and circumambulate the banyan tree 5, 11, 21 or 51 times as much as possible
- After this, come home and fan your husband with the same leaf
- Eat fruits offered in the prasad
Significance and story of Vat Savitri Vrat
According to folklore, King Ashwapati of Madra country was blessed with a daughter after he worshipped Savitri along with his wife. When Savitri was young, Ashwapati sent her along with a minister to choose a groom. When she came after choosing Satyavan as her groom, Devrishi Narada told everyone that Satyavan, son of Maharaja Dyumatsen, would die after 12 years of marriage. Hearing this, the king asked the daughter Savitri to choose another groom. But Savitri did not agree. After knowing from Naradji the time of Satyavan's death, she started living in the forest with her husband and mother-in-law.
Savitri started fasting ahead of her husband's death date as declared by Naradji. When Yamraj came to take her husband Satyavan, Savitri also followed him. On this, Yamraj, pleased with her devotion, granted her a boon. In her first wish, she asked for the sight and longevity of his blind father-in-law. after it was granted, she continued to follow them. When yamraj offered her a second boon, she got back her father-in-law's lost kingdom. In the end, as the third boon, Savitri asked for the boon of a hundred sons ensuring that er husband lives a long life. With her wisdom, Savitri not only saved Satyavan's life but also did the welfare of his family.
