Lunar Eclipse 2022: The first Lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan of the year 2022 is all set to take place in the month of May. This year only two lunar eclipses will take place and both will be complete ones. Just a few days back on April 30, the world witnessed the first solar eclipse of the year that took place on April 30. And now just after 15 days, on May 16 the Chandra Grahan will take place during which the full moon of Vaishakh will be seen. On this day, the lunar eclipse starts at 07:02 in the morning and will end at 12:20 in the afternoon. For those unversed about the astronomical event, it takes place when the moon moves into the Earth's shadow. Even though this eclipse will not be seen in India, its impact will definitely be witnessed in the lives of people. Lunar Eclipse 2022: Date and Time:

The first lunar eclipse is all set to take place on May 16 and will begin at 07:02 in the morning and end at 12:20 in the afternoon.

Vaishakh Purnima Date 2022:

According to the Hindu calendar, the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month is starting from 12.45 pm on Sunday, May 15, and will end the next day at 09:43 am on Monday, May 16. In such a situation, Vaishakh Purnima will be celebrated on 16 May.

Sutak period during lunar eclipse:

The Sutak period of the lunar eclipse will start 09 hours before the eclipse. However, the Sutak period is valid only at the place where the lunar eclipse is visible. The lunar eclipse will not be valid in the country where the lunar eclipse will not be visible.

Time of sutak period:

The Sutak period will start from 10.02 pm on May 15. The Sutak period will end with the end of the lunar eclipse.

  • Lunar eclipse should not be watched with naked eyes and telescope, binocular, or glasses should be used
  • Eating during the eclipse is not recommended. Moreover, it is advised to keep tulsi leaves in the food dishes, especially the ones made of milk.
  • Chant mantras and take the name of God to minimize the harmful effect of lunar eclipse.
  • Avoid cutting hair and nail during the eclipse as it is considered inauspicious. Apart from this, do not use knives, fork, or any other pointed and sharp tools.
  • Donating food and clothes is considered auspicious after the lunar eclipse.
