BOSTON (AP) — A member of the MS-13 gang has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in two killings in Boston in which the teenage victims were lured to their deaths via social media.
Federal prosecutors say 23-year-old Edwin Gonzalez was sentenced Tuesday following his conviction on racketeering charges.
The jury found that the El Salvador national's racketeering activity on behalf of MS-13 included his participation in the September 2015 murder of a 15-year-old boy and the January 2016 murder of a 16-year-old boy.
The investigation revealed that Gonzalez was the driving force behind, and key a participant in, both slayings.
Prosecutors say both victims were lured to an East Boston beach by gang members pretending to be a girl on Facebook who wanted to meet for a date.
