FULTON, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a man serving a life sentence in the death of his estranged wife led authorities to where he buried her body in Michigan eight years ago in exchange for an Xbox.
The Sturgis Journal reports Doug Stewart will also be allowed to participate in some prison programs. Stewart was living in Virginia when Venus Stewart was killed. He was convicted in 2011, although the body hadn't been found. On Monday, he took detectives to a wooded area in Kalamazoo County.
Doug Stewart had long maintained that he hadn't been involved in her killing. He says things changed when his sister began to reconcile with his wife's family. He says he hopes to make amends.
Tests are being conducted on the remains, but police are confident they've found Venus Stewart.
