CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's official news agency says prosecutors have rejected an Italian request to name several policemen as suspects in the 2016 killing of an Italian graduate student in Cairo.

The agency's report, published Monday in state-owned newspapers, says the prosecutors turned down a similar request by the Italians a year ago on the grounds that there was no concrete evidence to incriminate the policemen.

Italy is pressing Egypt to speed up the investigation into the killing of Cambridge University graduate student Giulio Regeni, who went missing in Cairo in January 2016. His body was found several days later, bearing signs of extensive torture, which activists and rights groups say is common in Egyptian detention facilities.

Egyptian authorities have denied involvement in his death.
