MONTREAL (AP) — Jonathan Drouin and Max Domi simplified their games night by putting more shots on net.
Domi had two goals and an assist and Drouin added a goal and two assists as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-2 Tuesday night.
"Me and Max were in the same boat the past couple years where we don't shoot enough," Drouin said. "Sometimes you just got to shoot and keep it simple."
Artturi Lehkonen and Brendan Gallagher also scored for the Canadiens, who entered the game with one win in their last seven. Carey Price stopped 28 shots.
Mark Stone and Dylan DeMelo scored for the Senators, whose three-game winning streak was halted. Craig Anderson made 36 saves.
Drouin scored with 5:30 left in the opening period as he and Domi broke out on a two-on-one against Senators defenseman Cody Ceci. Domi sped up the wing and fed Drouin, who backhanded it through Anderson's legs.
DeMelo tied the game in the second period, taking a pass from forward Mikkel Boedker and scoring past Price.
The Canadiens came back with three unanswered goals in the second period.
Domi scored with 5:22 left in the second period, burying a one-time pass from Drouin. Domi added his second of the period three minutes later, again on a pass from Drouin. Drouin recorded his first three-point game of the season, while Domi has two this season.
"I know how (Drouin) is going to pass the puck," Domi said. "You read the spin on it. He knows where the sweet spot is. Good players like (Drouin) can find that and I all had to really do was smack the puck."
The Senators felt the game unraveled for them in that stretch.
"The game was right there for us," Stone said. "We just didn't play smart in the last five minutes of that second period."
Lehkonen made it 4-1 with his fifth of the season 18:17 into the second, and Gallagher scored his 12th of the season four minutes into the third.
Stone made it 5-2 with his 13th of the year midway through the third period.
