NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian officials say the death toll from a fire that swept through a Mumbai hospital has risen to eight.
Dozens of firefighters rushed to the Monday afternoon fire at the government-run ESIC Kamgar Hospital, but smoke engulfed the five-story building.
A police official, speaking Tuesday on condition of anonymity, said at least eight people died in the fire. Indian news reports say an infant just a few months old was among the dead.
Deadly fires are common in India, where building inspections are often very lax.
