SAN DIEGO (AP) — California Gov. Jerry Brown is extending the state National Guard's position in President Donald Trump's border deployment by six months.

The California National Guard said Friday that the mission will now run until the end of March. It had been scheduled to expire on Sunday.

In April, Brown and Trump clashed publicly on the Guard's mission as the governor insisted that troops have no involvement in immigration enforcement or construction of any border barriers. The Guard says that condition will continue during the six-month extension.

The Guard has currently assigned about 400 troops, including some 250 in the San Diego and El Centro areas on the U.S.-Mexico border.
