CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh (AP) — Bangladesh spinners took three wickets to put the home side in a strong position after reducing West Indies to 54-3 at lunch on the second day of the first test on Friday.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan claimed 2-11 while fellow left-arm spinner Taijul Islam returned 1-12.

The visitors dismissed Bangladesh for 324 in its first innings, allowing the hosts to survive just 4.4 overs Friday as it began the day on 315-8. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (4-70) took both of the wickets in three balls.

West Indies began cautiously but openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell never appeared to be in control.

Taijul had the first breakthrough with an arm-ball, dismissing Powell for 14 via leg-before to end a 29-run partnership. On his comeback match after missing the Zimbabwe series, Shakib struck twice in his first overs, dismissing Shai Hope and Brathwaite.

Roston Chase was batting on 19 with Sunil Ambris on 5, after both survived from dropped catches against Shakib's bowling.
