Congress leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday resigned from the primary membership of the party.
"Please accept this letter as my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress," Kiran Kumar Reddy said in his resignation letter.
Kiran Kumar Reddy sent his resignation letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Sources say that he is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and may meet PM Modi and Amit Shah soon in Delhi.
Reacting to Reddy's resignation, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore said those who got everything from the party and finished the Andhra Pradesh Congress now leave for the BJP.
Reddy was the last chief minister of Andhra Pradesh before it was divided into two states.
This is not the first time Reddy had resigned from the Congress party. He earlier quit the party in 2014 when the UPA government decided to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh and carve out Telangana.
He had floated his own political outfit Jai Samaikyandhra Party but returned to the Congress in 2018.
