Auckland, Feb 6: A major earthquake of intensity 8.0 on the Richter scale rocked South Pacific ocean off Solomon Islands early this morning generating a tsunami alert.
AP reports, 3-feet high tsunami waves were noticed on the coast of Solomon Islands.
The tsunami warning was generated for several island nations in the South Pacific.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami of .9 meters (3 feet) was measured in Lata wharf, in the Solomon Islands.
No damage was immediately reported there or in Vanuatu, which also was covered by the warning.
