Varanasi: The famous Gorakhpur-based publication house, Gita Press, today scoffed “rumours” that it was on the verge of shut down and cautioned people against giving donations to any person or entity on its name.
“Rumours are being spread about the Gita Press that it has been ‘completely shutdown' following the lockout and strike by its employees demanding higher wages and other benefits,” Chief of Gita Press Trust Board Radhey Shyam Khemka said in a press conference today.
“We would like to clarify that the Gita Press Trust never takes any donation from public or even publishes any outside advertisements in its holy books or magazines run or managed by it,” said Khemka, who is also an editor of its Hindi magazine ‘Kalyan'.
“Using fake names of the Gita Press Trust an appeal on the Internet is being made to raise funds saying that Gita Press is facing financial crisis and needs donation.
Also at some places funds have been collected by certain (disturbing) elements citing financial crisis,” said Khemka.
It was temporarily shut down in December last over wage issues, but work resumed a few days later. Founded in 1923, Gita Press in Eastern Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district is known to be one of the largest publishers of Hindu religious texts.
