Despite the lead vocalist of the band - Sanam Puri being applauded tremendously for his Bollywood numbers, SANAM is intact and will always be.

1. What the term 'holding the torch of independent music' holds to you?
It is freedom. There is no body telling us and giving us situations to sing. We choose what we like and what we feel is dear to us. We choose our emotions and fuse-them-in to create anything out of anything. The independent music is more like an art. It is about painting a beautiful musical picture for people the way you desire.
2. If music to you is independent, why do you pick old Bollywood songs and recreate them?
The songs of the era that we pick belong to the period that was known as Bombay film industry and not precisely Bollywood.
Coming to why we pick them (the songs), the reason being the purity of compositions. The old songs are pure in terms of melody, lyrics and everything. Back then, the songs were given plenty of time. Everything in an offering used to compliment every other thing. It is near to impossible to make the melodies that have been made and in order to let the younger generation cherish that, we pick up a song and give it our touch.
And this is just a part of what we do.
3. Has SANAM-the band planned to venture into main stream Bollywood since Sanam has already given his voice for songs like 'Ishq bulava' and 'Dhat tere ki'?
SANAM is a free spirited band that is open to do everything. We are not running after Bollywood. More importantly, we always focus on the music that we like to create. And if Bollywood comes in between, none of us have any qualms with that. Our focus area is to create good quality music regardless of the material.
