New Delhi: Sadashiv Amrapurkar one of the finest actors of Bollywood, who has taken villainous characters to a new level, altogether, is no longer with us.
The 64-year-old actor contracted a lung infection in October 2014 and was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where his condition became critical. Sadashiv Amrapurkar passed away at 2 am on November 3, 2014. He was in hospital for almost 2 weeks.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who was known for Bollywood films like - 'Aankhen', 'Ishq', 'Coolie No. 1' and 'Gupt: The Hidden Truth' has acted in more than 300 movies in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya and Haryanvi.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar was born in an affluent business family and his father was a well known personality in Ahmednagar. Sadashiv attended Navin Marathi Shala and did Masters in History at University of Pune.
Sadashiv started acting from the school and college days. In 1973, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sunanda Karmarkar. Before acting in Govind Nihalani's Ardha Satya in 1983 for which he won a Filmfare award, Sadashiv had worked in Marathi plays as well.
After Ardha Satya, Sadashiv Amrapurkar starred in , Amrapurkar starred in small roles in films such as 'Purana Mandir', 'Nasoor', 'Muddat', 'Veeru Dada', 'Jawani', and 'Farishtay'.
He gave a different twist to his villainous characters who can forget his roles in the films like - Sadak, Purana Mandir, Mr India, Veeru Dada and Jawani.
In mid-90s, Sadashiv started playing supporting roles, Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No. 1, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Aunty No. 1, Jai Hind and Chote Sarkar.
There were rumours doing the rounds that Sadashiv was not physically fit, so he was getting less Bollywood offers. But it seems health wasn't an issue for him to stay away Bollywood limelight. He was last seen in 'Bombay Talkies' and was supposed to star with Riteish Deshmukh in upcoming film 'Bank Chor'.
Apart from his fine acting skills, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was also known for his social work. He always looked out for those less fortunate even during his childhood. He was a philanthropist, social activist and was also engaged in a number of social organizations like Samajik krutadnyata nidhi, Andhashraddha nirmulan samiti, Snehalaya, Lokshahi Prabodhan Vyaspeeth, Ahmednagar Aitihasik Vastu Sangrahalaya and many others.
He was severely beaten while protesting against water wastage during Holi festival near his residence in Mumbai.
