Dhoom 3 movie review: It has story but lacks necessary energy

The action dramas, since decades, stand triumph for stimulating the spectators to witness it. However, it's the finale episode in the theatres that decides the fate of the flick. More than a month ago, the superhero Krrish did amaze us with its jaw-dropping action sequences. Dhoom, which kicked off on a revolutionary note, also became a victorious franchisee with a new trend of anti-heroes. Adding one more to it, the writer-turned-director Vijay Krishna Acharya shoulders the responsibility to thrill its audience who are craving for more with its latest installment. Acharya who faced disappointment with his directorial debut Tashan, balances himself with Dhoom 3. The director gives a varied dimension to the company by keeping the core- run and chase element- intact. While in the earlier two we came across roughly sincere cons, the latest offers a dark and emotional link to our protagonist.Iqbal (Jackie Shroff) runs ‘The Great Indian Circus' which is in debt of the bank loan. He along with his son Sahir try to influence Mr. Anderson, the bank manager of Western Chicago Bank, failing which he commits suicide. Sahir (now Aamir Khan) grows older with a fire of revenge within him. He wants to destroy each branch of that bank and he does so. Meanwhile, he re-owns the same circus and entertains the audience with his team that includes Aaliya (Katrina Kaif), keeping his mission intact. And to stop him ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali Akbar (Uday Chopra) enter the plot.Thereafter follows the comparable traditional formula of inability to chase the con because of lack of evidences but it doesn't dissect the interest into the flick as it has something more. It possesses the quality to hold you, throughout the two hour and fifty three minutes runtime but director Vijay Kumar doesn't wander around the iconic theme of an out an out action. He demonstrates a darker world of the protagonist who isn't keen to rob but destroy his father's killer. For those who must be in anticipation of the similar aroma of high-flying stunts and action sequences, which earlier installments had, might just be losing their curiosity because this drama is more emotionally foiled rather than thrillingly exposed.Acharya holds the grip over the screenplay which doesn't bring in any non-essential plot to destroy the theme. The revenge factor is rigorously employed and Aamir's actions justify it. The flick in the first hour takes time to unearth the reasons behind the exploitation of bank but it picks pace half an hour prior interval which has a major surprise for you. You get an acceptance that Dhoom 3 possesses a genuine storyline, which earlier installments didn't, but lacks the spark in action which takes backseat somewhere in the mid.Those which are offered at extremely wide intervals, you are appealed but not fascinated with them. You get deja- vo feel and expect for something new. What also perturb are the chasing sequences in where once again Ali and Jay out of nowhere mark their heroic presence. We are surprised after seven years of cinematic experience the makers haven't get on with the same bizarre formula. But we allow them to enjoy the cinematic liberty which at least isn't exploited.They chase in bikes around Chicago and make us visit the countryside which is beautifully captured. And Aamir looks good in that. His anti-hero character grabs your attention like earlier protagonists did. He is clever and intelligent in his plans and his performance speaks louder. We won't reveal much about his character but it is the accentuating turnaround for the flick.Katrina Kaif plays her part extremely well. She displays the energy like never before while performing stunts and unusual dance and is simply adorable. She fulfills the required need of the glamour quotient.Abhishek Bachchan once again is a disciplined ACP but this time he attacks more on emotions. We feel sad that he is still not upgraded to the position, but there is an appraisal in his performance. Uday Chopra's trademark style is once again lovable. His chemistry with the new diva is limited but will surely tickle your funny bone. Jackie Shroff is his limited appearance is good.Music by Pritam once again is zealous. Undoubtedly Dhoom title track takes lead among all the other songs. And we guess that the craze for the album is going to soar up. Background score by Julius Packiam packs a solid punch with the stunts. I'll go with two and a half stars for Dhoom 3 which has its moments of fun but lacks the ecstasy which one expected from the franchisee.
