Chennai: A violent robbery took place in Chennai on Monday night where a robber in an attempt to steal gold earrings of a lady, cut off her ear lobe.

54–year-old Sivakumari was sleeping in an under construction building where she was working. A thief entered the building and very steadily removed one of her ear ring.

While he was attempting to remove another one Sivakumari woke up.

When she attempted to resist and raised an alarm, the robber turned violent and attacked her with a brick, hitting her repeatedly till she swooned. The robber cut off her ear lobe with a knife and fled the scene with the gold studs, each weighing 8gm.

When Sivakumari regained consciousness, she cried out for help. Neighbours admitted her to a private hospital where doctors treating her said she was weak from loss of blood.

Sivakumari lived with her daughter Rajalakshmi in a rented house in Ayapakkam and recently started spending the night at the house she is constructing. She said she could not describe the robber because it was dark and she did not get a good look at him.

The Thirumullaivoyal police have drawn up a list of known offenders in the area in an attempt to identify and arrest the robber.
